suisei no gargantia

Today, I would like to talk about the ongoing anime, 【Suisei no Gargantia】. I am really excited about this anime. While watching the first episode, I could feel an adrenaline rush. I tend to get excited easily but it has been a while since I was this excited. (^^) 翠星のガルガンティア is a science fiction and a mecha series. I confess that I have no special interest in robots. Between the words “mechanical” and “cotton”, I would say I am more of a “cotton” person. Does this sentence make any sense? (lol) However, the A.I. (artificial intelligence) in the anime has me intrigued. 翠星のガルガンティア has opened my eyes a little to the world of mecha.

That is Chamber, the A.I. I was talking about. ♥ Let me move on to the storyline. I would keep spoilers down to a minimum. However, I would be writing a little about the concepts that have piqued my interest (which is the purpose of this post). Set in the future, mankind has resorted to drifting in the stars. The humans found a habitable planet to live on, in which they call it their homeland and named it “Avalon”. However, the alien species, Hideauze, threatens their existence and the humans are forced to go into a war with them. The Hideauze look like evil-looking flowers that have mutated (lol) though later in the series they are revealed to be more squid-like. The humans formed an alliance called the “Galactic Alliance of Humankind” to fight in the war. Following a failed attempt to destroy the enemy, 16-year-old Galactic Alliance lieutenant, Ledo, finds himself shipwrecked on Earth, the birthplace of humanity.

This is when the story gets interesting. Earth has become a legendary place that the humans from space were familiar with only in records. Imagine Ledo’s surprise when he discovered that Earth still exists. This particular idea that Earth was thought to be no longer habitable and that humans had resorted to cruising among the stars is thrilling beyond words.

Another interesting concept is Chamber. Chamber is a mass produced robot produced by the alliance. It is like a robotic suit that Ledo wears, except that it can talk and communicate with humans. ♫ It describes itself as an A.I. (artificial intelligence) designed to offer combat and survival support to its pilot host. I get the chills from machines that can speak and have intelligence. It would be quite an achievement if humans could write such an incredible program. ✿ The first time I had read about something like this was from a novel series titled “Traces“. In the series, Forensic Investigator, Luke Harding and his “robot sidekick”, Malc, make a top forensic team. While Malc is technically Luke’s Mobile Aid to Law and Crime, he was like Luke’s buddy. Malc has no feelings but he never betrays and he has a certain level of intelligence comparable to that of humans. I really adore this human-machine partnership. I get the feels whenever the machine and human interact with each other. ♡o｡.(✿ฺ｡ ✿ฺ)♪

The series played quite a bit of fan service – to my dismay (lol) – as seen from the somewhat skimpy outfits that female characters wear. I suspect Ledo was also a victim in the grand scheme of providing fan service. Beside this, I have no other comment to make regarding the series (which is a good thing, I suppose). I shall now let the pictures do the talking.
